Jake is a street dog form Greece who was brought back to the UK after his leg was badly damaged in a traffic accident. But his leg is in a very bad way… forcing Noel to attempt one of the most challenging limb replacements of his career.

After a consultation with Jake and Lesley, Noel explained to Lesley about how anchoring a prosthetic device into Jakes bone onto which skin can grow was a possible solution for Jake to avoid amputation. It will be the longest prosthesis Noel has ever developed.

Noel ensured that Lesley knew that with a surgery like this, there will be no guarantees and his recovery will be critical. Lesley and Noel are united by the same thought – that Jake was up for the fight and it was worth trying this solution to give him the very best future possible for his long term welfare.

Noel operated on Jake and inserted a PerFiTS (metal attachment). Jake had to learn how to use his new foot over time and he needs hydrotherapy to help build up his muscles to support the new foot on an ongoing basis but day by day is getting stronger.

We were delighted to see Jake at DogFest this year sporting his new fourth leg and award him with a Supervet Hero Award for his bravery, and determination the fight the odds and enjoy life to the full!
